The star of the Virgin Mary

On November 29, the Sagrada Família lifted the star of the Virgin Mary into place. It is a piece of glass and stainless steel that measures 7.50 meters side and weighs 5.5 tons. It will have lighting following Gaudí's idea that this and the other towers project light rays on the city as a symbol of divine light, according to transcripts by his collaborators. This was a historic moment, as it is the final piece of the tower and changes the Barcelona skyline. The Sagrada Família inaugurated the tower of the Virgin Mary with a mass as the central event and, afterwards, the blessing of the tower and the first lighting of the star on the second-tallest tower, which is now complete.

Stained-glass windows

Gaudi looks into Gothic stained glass to find the base from where he'll approach the Sagrada Familia windows. Unfortunately, he never had enough time to go much into detail about his plans, and he mostly left only general guidelines to be interpreted by the next generations. The different colours on the stained glass windows symbolise the birth of Christ, resurrection, water and light.

Passion façade

Junta Constructora commissioned Subirachs to create the sculptures for the Passion façade, which Gaudí had left sketches of in his drawings, as well as the doors, in bronze, and other elements of the façade, including the representations of the apostles and the sculpture of the Ascension on the bridge that joins the two central bell towers. Subirachs made the Passion façade, he also made the doors for the Glory façade, the sculpture of Saint George inside, and a semi-bust of Gaudí. All of this work has also been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
